August 23rd, 2010

Beverly, MA — On September 2 Endicott College will begin its new academic year.  For the eighteenth consecutive year, the College has enrolled the largest class in its history.  This year the College anticipates an enrollment of 2115 students in its traditional on campus undergraduate program.  Approximately 1,760 will be in on campus housing and 52 students will study abroad in such places as Ghana, Denmark, New Zealand, India, Korea, China, and Ireland. The Van Loan School of Graduate and Professional Studies anticipates an enrollment of over 2,400 this year.

The Endicott Class of 2014 is made up of 675 students of which 628 are freshmen.  They represent 22 states and 14 countries.  According to Tom Redman, Vice President of Admission and Financial Aid, “We have experienced another banner year in the Office of Admission!  Of the 3,907 students who applied, 58% were offered admission.  The new Class brings a wealth of experience to campus as they have excelled academically, been active as student leaders and athletes, and participated in many valuable community service activities.”

According to President Richard E. Wylie, “Over the summer we have renovated and upgraded classrooms, offices, residence halls, roadways, and we have increased parking.  An addition to the Post Fitness Center is almost completed and a 250-bed residence hall is in process and slated to open in fall 2011.  We are completing the installation of over 300 wireless access points on campus to create a wireless infrastructure that encompasses classrooms, residence halls, the library campus centers and recreational and social places where students congregate.”

Impressive new faculty have been hired in the areas of Spanish, Psychology, Accounting, and Education.  Kevin Burke, who served as Secretary of Public Safety for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, joined Endicott to help expand opportunities in the field of criminal justice and homeland security.  Sarah Creighton, a well-known specialist in sustainability and the author of several books on the subject, also joined the College.

Over 250 preseason athletes have arrived on campus; new students are slated to arrive on August 30 and returning students on September 1.  Classes begin on September 2.

Endicott College Named a “2010 Great College to Work For”

July 26th, 2010

Beverly, MA –Endicott College is one of the best colleges in the nation to work for, according to a new survey by The Chronicle of Higher Education.

The results, released today in The Chronicle’s third annual report on The Academic Workplace, are based on a survey of more than 42,000 employees at 277 colleges and universities.

In all, only 97 of the 277 institutions achieved “Great College to Work For” recognition for specific best practices and policies. In addition Endicott was noted as one of 39 institutions on the Honor Roll, the institutions that were recognized the most in their size categories.

Endicott won honors in five categories this year including: Collaborative Governance, faculty members are appropriately involved in decisions related to academic programs; Teaching Environment, faculty members say the institution recognizes innovative and high-quality teaching; Confidence in Senior Leadership, leaders have the knowledge, skills, and experience necessary for institutional success; Respect and Appreciation, employees are regularly recognized for their contributions, and, Tenure Clarity and Process, requirements for tenure are clear, faculty members say.

“What impressed us most about the recognition was that it recognized the entire Endicott community. Our successes and achievements are a direct result of faculty and staff, that when supported and empowered to make change, find personal and professional pride in what they accomplish. Pride and success are wonderful partners,” said President Richard E. Wylie.

The Chronicle is the nation’s most important source of news about colleges and universities. “With the Great Colleges program, The Chronicle can provide even more of the vital information our readers rely on – unbiased reporting on which colleges are being innovative in their workplace practices.” said Jeffrey J. Selingo, The Chronicle’s editor.

The survey results are based on a two-part assessment process: an institutional audit that captured demographics and workplace policies from each institution, and a survey administered to faculty, administrators, and professional support staff. The primary factor in deciding whether an institution received recognition was the employee feedback.

To administer the survey and analyze the results, The Chronicle worked with ModernThink LLC, a strategic human capital consulting firm that has conducted numerous “Best Places to Work” programs, surveying hundreds of thousands of employees nationwide.

Great Colleges to Work For is one of the largest and most respected workplace-recognition programs in the country. For more information and to view all the results of the survey, visit The Chronicle’s Web site at http://chronicle.com/academicworkplace
